Chamber Choir of the Mozarteum University Salzburg

The Chamber Choir of the Mozarteum University Salzburg was founded in 2007 at the initiative of music students looking for the challenge of rehearsing and performing a-cappella repertoire at the highest possible level. The choir is directed by Herbert Böck, professor for choral and ensemble conducting, and comprises vocal students from all departments of the Mozarteum University who are chosen by audition.

With its performances over the first years, the choir rapidly acquired a reputation of one of the most prominent ensembles resident at its university. Some of its highly acclaimed appearances included a scenic production of Henry Purcell "Dido and Aeneas", followed by a remarkable performance together with the renowned "Hagen-Quartett" at the Festival "Webern pur" in 2008, where the choir gave the Austrian premiere of one of Webern's most demanding works, "Entflieht auf leichten Kähnen", op. 19. In March 2009, the Chamber Choir appeared in a concert programme devoted to works of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy ("Mendelssohn-Nacht"), followed by a concert programme dedicated to Henry Purcell on the occasion of his 350th anniversary.

In 2010, the Chamber Choir was honoured with its first invitation to tour abroad, and gave an outstanding concert in Slovenj Gradec, birth town of Hugo Wolf, Slovenia, commemorating the famous composer's 150th anniversary. The programme included Wolf "Six Sacred Songs after Poems by Joseph von Eichendorff", and was broadcast on Slovenian television.

In 2011, the Chamber Choir performed two a-cappella programmes at the Solitär Concert Hall of the Mozarteum University, including Frank Martin "Mass for two four-voice choirs a-cappella", and works by Gustav Mahler, Zoltan Kodaly, Javier Busto and Sven David Sandström.

Most recently in December 2012, the Chamber Choir of the Mozarteum University gave a concert on the occasion of its 5th anniversary, which was much acclaimed by both audience and press.

In March 2013, the Chamber Choir followed an invitation to perform at the "Festival of Sacred Music Bilbao" in Spain. A huge audience in the "Iglesia de la Encarnacion" received the choir's performance with great enthusiasm (Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Wolf, Mahler, Verdi, Busto, Nystedt). Further invitations to Bilbao, Mallorca and Barcelona have been expressed.
