OA-Publication Fund

The Mozarteum University Salzburg pays the publication fees for open access publications to its members, provided that the below-mentioned eligibility criteria are fulfilled and that publication in the institutional repository is approved. For introductory, non-binding inquiries, the Open Access Team of the library is at your disposal.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Eligibility
    • Eligible applicants are all researching members (= artistic and scientific staff, students).
    • The applicant must be the lead author (corresponding author) and act as contact person for the publisher.
    • The publication and, if applicaple, the website of the journal must indicate the "Universität Mozarteum Salzburg" or "Mozarteum University Salzburg" affiliation.
  2. Funded forms of publication
    • Open Access journal articles
    • Hybrid journal articles
    • Open Access monographs
    • Complete editorial works, anthologies, and conference proceedings, provided the corresponding author is affiliated with the Mozarteum University, but excluding individual contributions.
  3. Accepted publishers
    • Publishers including the list of publishers compiled by us will be accepted immediately.
    • If an article is published by a publisher that is not on the list, it will be checked whether it is a reputed and accredited publisher and if the risk of a predatory journal [Verlinkung zur Webseite predatory journal] can be excluded.
  4. Funding amount
    • For OA journal articles, the maximum allocation is: € 2,000.- incl. VAT. All submission fees, colour and page charges must be included.
    • For OA monographs, the maximum allocationis: € 5,000.- incl. VAT.
    • Splitting the cost is not possible, only total APCs (article processing charges) and BPCs (book processing charges) are accepted.
  5. Funding modalities
    • The first-come, first-served principle applies: the applications are processed in the order in which they are submitted.
    • There is no legal entitlement to funding. Once the funding provided by the publication fund has been exhausted, funding is no longer possible.
    • After the application has been reviewed, you will be immediately informed via e-mail whether your publication has been found eligible for funding.
  6. Application date and application form
    • The application should be submitted as soon as the work has been accepted for publication via the online-form.
    • Funding is only possible for new submissions. A refund of already paid bills is not possible.
    • The transmission of the first pages of the manuscript is very welcome as an additional and confirmational source of information.
  7. Acknowledgment and publication in the repository
    • The following acknowledgments must be attached to the sponsored work alongside a logo of the Mozarteum University Salzburg: "Funded by the Mozarteum University Salzburg".
    • The work will also be published in the repository of the Mozarteum University Library. The publisher must assure you of this right in the contract (see author addendum), and you must give your consent in the application form.
  8. Payment arrangements
    • The funding is paid out by a direct payment from the OA Publication Fund to the publisher.
    • The publisher sends the invoice directly to the Open Access Team. (If the publisher is only able to send the invoice directly to the author, please forward this invoice to us so that we can pay it. Do not pay the bill independently!)
    • The invoice must be addressed directly to the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Mirabellplatz 1, 5020 Salzburg.
    • The invoice should also include the following information:
      • The publisher’s name and liason
      • Name of the journal
      • Title of the publication
      • Name of corresponding authors
    • You will be notified as soon as we have forwarded the invoice to the Department of Finance and Accounting / Controlling.
